Thoughts On Homosexuality

A Long Time Coming...?

Let me begin first by making something abundantly clear: this is not a post about how America is now forever doomed. Because I already knew that long before this ever happened. This is not a post about how "Christians should be more loving in their responses," because that is not the issue, per se. This is, however, a post to make a very particular set of points. Because I do believe that a great many Christians are responding poorly to the recent ruling by the Supreme Court on what is often called "gay marriage" (as though "normal" marriage isn't?). You see, too many Christians have responded with one of two extremes- attempts at acceptance or utter depression. Both are incorrect responses, in that the first tries to make homosexuality a possible Christian trait, in that there can be Christian homosexuals. But just like there cannot be lying Christians, adulterous Christians, murdering Christians, and immoral Christians, there likewise cannot be homosexual Christians. The other is incorrect because it appears to think that this nation is our home, and ought to be as moral as we are (or rather, ought to be). So where should the Christian fall into this? It is really quite simple, and more often than not, I have seen sinners who fully support homosexuality, among many other sins, give better answers than the Christians of this nation, because they get at least half of the answer correct...

The Best Case Against Us

Lately, I have seen a couple people (at least) post something along the lines of this: "How can you Christians be so against gay marriage, and yet be perfectly okay with liars, murderers, divorce, and many other sins, and in your own churches? They should have the same rights as anyone else!" The thing about this answer is that, really, they are right- Christians are truly hypocrites in many ways, in that they are more than willing to accept active adulterers, liars, and generally speaking, most other types of sinners into their churches and groups, and often carry with them the same sins, albeit edited to fit the Christian appearance it ought to have. The way most professing Christians dress and talk and behave proves this. And it goes well beyond just these simple things. Before we ever talk about the sins of sinners being accepted, we must first look at what begins that in the first place, that being very, very deadly theology that so easily slips into the churches pulpit and social atmosphere. In fact, many "Christians" accept the Catholic faith as being just as Christian and God-loving as our own, and are more than willing to hold hands together with them in many causes. When in reality, almost the whole of Catholic doctrine is damning, in that its errors and lies affect everything from the purpose of communion to the power and authority of Christ Himself. And yet we are happily gathering with these, and yet push back against any sin that might get us popularity. And this simply must not be allowed. When things such as these are allowed and accepted, and often even promoted within the church, it makes very clear that the church itself has been in a much steadier decline than this nation has, and at a much more severe consequence.

How It Ought To Be

Say what you may, however, the answer is sharp and utterly distinguishable from the rest.
Firstly, in response to those who make the accusation against us, I have a simple answer, and one most Christians should know, and yet sadly do not. Of course we should be consistent! In fact, I dare say, we shouldn't stop there- we should be going out of our way to make certain we are consistent. Because this accusation makes evident that there is a great deal of inconsistency within the church. But even then, for an unbeliever (or professing believer who thinks they can balance the two beliefs), this is certainly not a good line of reason to use against the Bible.
Because that would mean that you are admitting homosexuality is, in fact, a sin. To say "But you allow other sins, so you should allow us too!" simply acknowledges that you are in the wrong. No, Christians should not allow homosexuality, nor should we allow any other sin you might list off found in the Bible. But to admit openly that it, too, is in the same camp as lying, adultery, murder and the like simply does not aid your argument, does it?
But more importantly, the Bible does in fact condemn homosexuality, and at the same time, uses it as a sign of an utterly depraved age in which to live. Romans 1 is not vague, nor does it beat around the bush, but is most clearly damning of the practice, and moreso the mentality, of homosexual lifestyle. Because it is the end of the road of a moral decline in society, and is the sign that God has "given over" a group or nation or world to their sin, which leads invariably to self-destruction. Because God has, as it were, let go- He lets them do what they want, without restraint, and they proceed to release all bonds of morality and beat and kill one another until they are so insecure that they begin to self-destruct, as Rome so brutally evidenced. When Israel let go of God's Law (which vividly condemned homosexuality, among many, many other sins), they were wiped out, and enslaved, and in the middle of all of this, they killed and ate one another, even their own children.
So no, to say that God loves the homosexual is make an assumption not seen in the Scripture (that being that He loves them just as much as He does anyone else). Because "those whom the Lord loves, He chastens, and scourges every son." If He does indeed love you, He will not leave you in your sinful state, but will pull you out (while you kick and scream), and will redeem you, and cause you to repent (meaning "a change of direction," not merely a change of attitude). And any challenge to these statements I am more than willing to take on...

But to Christians I write this post, because it is they who have fallen farther. As far as society goes, and yes, even this nation, I am not overly concerned with its downfall, because such a thing is inevitable. The world will end, as a good deal of Scripture already declares (the entire book of Revelation is practically dedicated to the End of all present things). No, America is not an eternal nation, nor was it ever meant to be. The founding fathers acknowledge that, as soon as morality fell, so would the nation. And this is not our home- heaven is. Why do we need to be so constantly reminded of this? That is the sad part- that Christians are so sad when their tent gets a tear in the fabric, when we should simply look ahead and see that there is a great deal awaiting us in the Kingdom of our Father. And, I might add, as society proceeds to decline faster and faster, and speeds towards its own doom, and that of the world, we will get that much closer to our Savior as our life-expectancy drops dramatically. And such a thing should excite us! Because, unlike other sins, homosexuality being not only accepted, but so blatantly promoted, is a sign of the End that is to come, and that it is closer than it ever has been. Why fear? As the world gets darker and darker, the light of the Word within us will shine brighter and brighter. What is their to despair about in that?

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.
Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.
And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them. - Romans 1 vs. 18-32
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “But the righteous man shall live by faith.” - vs. 16-17
